Is Oku safe for children?

Oku is built for children to use with a parent nearby. Only a parent signs in. There are no ads, no chat and no contact with other users, and Oku doesn't record or keep your child's voice. You can delete all your family's data from the parent area at any time.

What happens to my child's voice?

While your child reads, the microphone audio streams to Microsoft Azure Speech, which checks pronunciation as it happens. Oku keeps the scores, not the audio.

Can my child talk to strangers or see ads?

No. Oku has no chat, no messages and no other users your child can see. It shows no ads and has no in-app purchases.

Does my child need an account?

No. A parent signs in once with Google on the child's device, and it stays signed in. Your child never sees a sign-in screen and never types in personal details. Children only read.

Who can see my child's reading?

The reading log belongs to your account, in the parent area. Other families can't see it, and Oku shares it with no one apart from the services that run the app, listed in the privacy notice. Anyone using a signed-in device can open the log, so keep that device in the family.

Are the AI-written stories safe?

Oku asks Anthropic's Claude for gentle, age-appropriate stories. Claude receives the child's age, first language, interests, reading level and hard words, but not the child's name. No one reviews every sentence before your child sees it, so if anything seems wrong, write to bkocdur@gmail.com and it will be fixed.

Does Oku score my child?

Your child never sees a score or a red mark. Oku uses pronunciation estimates to choose what to practise next, and you can see them in the reading log. They guide the practice; they aren't a test.

How do I delete our data?

In the parent area, choose "Delete your family's data". It removes every reader, story, reading log and reward, your account and all sign-ins straight away. Database backups expire within 30 days. The privacy notice has the full details.
