What Oku is

Oku is a free reading-practice app for children learning to read English, run as a small family project. It's in beta: features may change, and the service may pause or stop. By signing in, you agree to these terms and to the privacy notice.

Accounts

  • Only a parent or legal guardian may create an account, with their own Google account.
  • Add only children you are responsible for, and supervise their use of the app.
  • Keep your devices secure: anyone using a signed-in device can open your family's reading log.

Fair use

  • Use Oku for your own family's reading practice.
  • Don't try to reach other families' data, overload the service, or copy it at scale.
  • We may suspend an account that breaks these rules or puts other families at risk.

Stories and scores

New stories are written by AI around each child's reading. We design them to be gentle and age-appropriate, but we can't review every sentence before your child sees it. If anything seems wrong, tell us at the address below and we'll fix it. Pronunciation scores are estimates from speech recognition. They guide the practice; they aren't an educational or medical assessment.

No warranty

Oku is provided as it is, free of charge, without guarantees that it will be available, error-free or suited to a particular purpose. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for losses arising from using it.

Ending

You can stop at any time and delete your family's data from the parent area. If we ever close Oku, we'll say so on this site first.
